Marta Nickols is a former USCIS Field Office Director and Assistant Center Director with more than 17 years of experience in immigration adjudications, operations, and leadership. Throughout her career, she oversaw thousands of immigration benefit applications and petitions, reviewed complex and high-profile cases, and led teams responsible for delivering immigration services across the United States.
Her expertise includes employment-based and family-based immigration matters, including EB-1, EB-2 National Interest Waivers (NIW), Adjustment of Status, and Naturalization. Marta specializes in case strategy reviews, quality assurance, attorney and staff training, operational improvement, and immigration compliance. As an immigrant herself, Marta is passionate about helping legal professionals and organizations strengthen their immigration practices, improve case preparation, and better understand how immigration cases are evaluated and adjudicated. Drawing on her extensive USCIS leadership experience, Marta provides practical, real-world insights that help clients navigate complex immigration matters with confidence.

Düden, a former American Diplomat, is the founder of Idelirë Consulting, the company behind Visas 101. Düden has been on both sides of the Consular window, as an applicant, petitioner, and a Consular Officer, and she understands the weight of every consular decision from both the applicant's and the Consular Officer's perspectives.
She has personally interviewed and adjudicated tens-of-thousands of non-immigrant and immigrant visas. Düden served with the Department of State in Mali, Spain, Malaysia and at the Atlanta Passport Agency. She is the recipient of two Cable of the Month Awards and Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards at the Department of State.

Dean is a retired Senior American Diplomat with a wealth of experience. He worked overseas in Nigeria, Nepal, Jerusalem, and Spain, where he interviewed tens-of-thousands of immigrant and non-immigrant visa applicants and reviewed hundreds of thousands of immigrant and non-immigrant visa interviews conducted by officers he supervised. He also served in various leadership roles, including as Visa Chief in Jerusalem and Deputy Consul General/Visa Chief in Madrid.
Domestically, in addition to the Office of War Crimes Issues/Global Criminal Justice, Dean had several leadership roles in the Office of Visa Services. Most immediately prior to his retirement, he served as the Director of the Office of American Citizens Services during the pandemic and during crisis operations in Burma, Ethiopia, Gaza, and Afghanistan. Dean is the recipient of 14 individual Meritorious and Superior Honor Awards at the Department of State, as well as a member of a number of group awards, several awards granted by other U.S. government agencies, and the 2003 AFSA W. Averell Harriman Award for Constructive Dissent.
We understand how stressful the U.S. immigration process can be. And we are happy to help!
The 1-on-1 consultation is for anyone who wants personalized attention on their U.S. immigration matter from someone who made decisions on the inside. That includes a non-immigrant or immigrant visa, a citizenship or passport application, or a petition or application filed with USCIS (such as EB-1, EB-2 NIW, Adjustment of Status, or Naturalization).
Our team includes former U.S. Department of State Consular Managers, Visa and American Citizen Services Officers who served at U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad, as well as a former USCIS Field Office Director who adjudicated and supervised immigration cases inside the United States. Between them, they are experts across the full picture of U.S. visas, passports, and USCIS matters.
Whether you are just thinking about applying, have already begun the process, are getting ready for a visa or USCIS interview, or are looking to try again after a refusal or denial, and you want personalized attention beyond what is offered in our masterclasses, then this consultation is for YOU.
Please note that we are not attorneys and do not provide legal advice. Our consultations offer practical, experience-based insight from the perspective of former U.S. immigration officers, and they are not a substitute for the advice of a qualified immigration lawyer.
A prior denial does not mean the door is closed.
On the visa side, the case notes from a 214(b) refusal stay in your record permanently, but that does not mean the denial cannot be overcome at a future interview. That being said, every time a visa application gets denied, it gets harder to convince the Visa Officer that you are qualified for the visa. And so, the question becomes is it a good idea to reapply, and if so, when?
On the USCIS side, a denial, Request for Evidence (RFE), or Notice of Intent to Deny (NOID) on a petition or application can often be addressed with a stronger case the next time around.
During a 1-on-1 consultation, we are happy to give you our honest, no-fluff feedback on whether and when you should move forward, so you can improve your chances of an approval.
Good question! And that is entirely up to you. We recommend a longer consultation for anyone who wants to do 1-2 mock interviews or who was previously denied a visa or U.S. entry, or got pulled into secondary inspection, and/or has an arrest record or other known red flags in their case.
If you want to be even better prepared, take advantage of our BUNDLE & SAVE offer and book a 30-minute strategy call followed by a 1-hour consultation.
That depends entirely on you! If you have a list of questions that you are dying to ask a former USCIS field office director and have NO documents you need her to review, then schedule just a 1-hour consult.
If you need her to take a look at any documents (up to 50-pages) and want her verbal assessment in a 1-hour consultation, then book a verbal case assessment. If you choose the latter, remember to submit your documents at least 48-hours before your scheduled appointment, otherwise we do not guarantee that she will have time to review everything ahead of your call.
Nobody can guarantee that your petition or your visa will be approved. If anyone claims they can, you should run away from them as fast as you can! With our courses and/or a consultation, however, you will significantly increase your chances - because with more knowledge from expert sources (like us, former Consular Managers and a former USCIS field office director), you will be better prepared for your USCIS filing or your visa interview.
Yes, Marta Nickols - the former USCIS Field Office Director - has expertise in both employment-based and family-based immigration matters, including EB-1, EB-2 National Interest Waivers (NIW), Change of Status, Adjustment of Status, and Naturalization.
Dean Kaplan and Düden Freeman are former U.S. diplomats who served overseas across multiple continents. The U.S. immigration law is the same no matter where you are from and what language you speak. They were trained by the U.S. Department of State to apply the law, and they trained other visa and passport officers to do the same.
They have interviewed and worked with visa applicants from over 150 nationalities. Most U.S. visas require that the applicant speaks English. For tourist visa applicants who do not speak English, they speak French, Spanish, Turkish, and basic Portuguese, they use translation services during a call if needed.
While we do not fill out application or petition forms or schedule official visa or USCIS interview appointments, we are happy to review your forms before or after you submit them to share our thoughts based on our professional experience.
If you are applying for a visa, make sure to SAVE your DS-160 or DS-260 before submitting it, as the system will NOT let you retrieve an already-submitted application.
If you need help expediting a visa interview appointment, our former Visa Officers are also happy to review your message / email draft that you plan to send to an Embassy or Consulate for that purpose.
If you are applying for a visa, and the 1-on-1 consultation is out of your current budget, then we recommend you start by taking our online courses. We have two courses available for you: our B1/B2 Visas Masterclass for visitors and our F/M/J Visas Masterclass for students and exchange visitors. And if those are also out of your budget, you can explore our free resources available on our website and through our social media.
Keep in mind, however, that for non-immigrant visas, like the B1/B2 or the F-1 visa, the Visa Officer is assessing your financial means. If our consultations or our courses are out of your budget, it may be wise for you to reconsider your travel plans to the United States.
